what a weekend

Saturday morning was rainy, windy and the Farmer’s Market was crowded. Tomatoes are abundant and though there is and was a blight, there is still an amazing crop coming in. My favorite stand is Eckerton Farms, with Tim and Wayne hauling great heirloom tomatoes off the back of their truck. We eat them like candy while we stand around gabbing about everything and anything. I stopped at Cherry Lane Farms to pick up gherkin cucumbers. It is time to make some pickles.
But peppers, italian fryers and sweet bells are what I can not stop cooking and eating. I cook them slow with sliced sweet onions in olive oil. The pepper and onion mixture can be put in the refrigerator and added to whatever. My favorite is on top of scrambled eggs scooped up with toast.

We are now looking for capital in order to make this all happen. Elisa and I are crunching and recrunching numbers, trying to make it work. Some days it is working and then we realize that the pitfalls are there and we need to keep a hard eye on the bottom line. The gas could be a problem. Bringing the gas line in from the street adds time and money to the project but how much is the question. Stay tuned… there will be more.

everything is reving up

So we found this new space only two blocks away from the old Jarnac site. Elisa and I did this by moving out block by block into the neighborhood. Along the way we saw alot and learned alot about real estate and what is happening in the West Village. But, in the end we found 626 Hudson Street. It will seat 50 people and has a lovely garden. We will be doing a total build-out, including the kitchen. Big excitement folks…we will have a walk-in refrigerator (refuge for chefs the world over).

Today we met with Karen Fausch of Metropolitan Gardener, who will be designing our garden. We want it to be like the gardens you  see  while strolling through Venice. So lush and green, you just can’t wait to sit down to an aperitf and relax.  When Karen showed us her designs today, we were overjoyed.  Just what we dreamed of and I wish we were opening for brunch tomorrow so you all could share it with us.

You can find info on Karen Fausch and the Metropolitan Gardener at http://themetropolitangardener.com/

Ciao, see you soon
